Adwords: One Exam One Life

Congratulations, we are all certified in the Fundamentals of Google Adwords! The exam was brutally intensive, however we all walked away with important knowledge that is going to come in handy to help companies run ads online.

We also learned how to consolidate your ad groups, Ad placements, how handle your bidding strategy, and so much more information! The exam consisted of 100 difficult questions that gave several students a headache. Some students took it alone, others took it together in fear. I probably would not recommend live tweeting about taking an exam with people, providing the exact room number and giving easy access to those entering upon a hot room of anxiety.

Look Now Look Again

Since graduation for most of us is right around the corner, it’s time to start your job search.  We all have attained several new skills including knowledge of Balsamiq, content calendars, SEO, basic HTML, Google Adwords, etc. so we should be fearless when applying for jobs. You should start looking now! Maybe search for job titles like Social media Coordinator, Media Marketing Management, Event planning, or just keep browsing and apply to multiple jobs! Here’s a list of some online job search websites to check!

Your Agency!

This week we presented our Balsamiq mock ups of our digital hub 2.0 projects. Our mock ups helped us gather an idea of where our group agency is headed. Now that we have a basic idea of how our website will be laid out, we have to build our websites. In addition, we need to create social media accounts, start gaining followers, and keep them active by posting a few times a week. We have to do this in order to gather reporting of Twitter and Google analytics as well as Facebook insight and SEO score. Each agency also needs to have a Google+ account!

Don’t forget!

Next class, we are meeting in the media incubator so we can take our professional head shots for our websites. Clients like to see class and professionalism. Wear nice clothing, and please don’t be that guy who looks like he just got done hanging out with big bird from sesame street at a summer camp rave. #PeaceSignBroYo

       Adwords

Anyways…

Ike went to Jungle Jim’s and fed us exotic snacks. The red spicy sucker, the chips that smelled like paint, the crackers that looked like dog food. What Jungle Jim’s snack did you hate the most?

How will your Adwords Certification personally be effective in your career future?

Have you started applying for jobs yet? What do you want and what are you finding difficult?

What troubles, if any have you run into with your group project so far?

I hated the chili suckers. Those things should have never been made. the creator of those suckers needs to be tried for crimes against humanity.

The chili suckers for sure. Everything else was at least palatable and I enjoyed most of them, but those lollipops were disgusting and should probably only be used as some sort of torture method.

How will your Adwords Certification personally be effective in your career future?

Unfortunately, it won’t be too helpful by the time I get around to applying for jobs, as I don’t graduate until next Spring and my certification will be expired by then. (Sorry Ike, but I don’t know if I can put myself through that exam again…) But, it did definitely teach me some valuable skills that I can put to use in future employment opportunities, and if nothing else, I can still say that I was, at one point in time, certified, which I sincerely hope will still count for something.

Have you started applying for jobs yet? What do you want and what are you finding difficult?

Basically the same situation that I mentioned on the last question — I don’t graduate until Spring 2018, so I haven’t started looking yet. However, I do have two jobs (one at Cox Media and one at Fusian) right now, so for the time being, I’m pretty happy in the job department. What I’m finding most difficult, however, is definitely the fact that there’s not enough hours in a day to balance everything.

What troubles, if any have you run into with your group project so far?

For the most part, my group has worked really well together! The only trouble that I’d say we’ve run into is just figuring out times that work for everyone so that we can all get together at once to work on projects, but today, we finally found a day that worked! Yay!

Torture method. LOL! That’s a bummer it will soon expire after you graduate, but at least you have the basic knowledge of how Adwords works and are able to put that on your resume.

    Great Post Scott!
I have to say I despised the chili suckers! Why would anyone go through the trouble to produce such a terrible excuse for a candy.
I think that the Google Adwords certification will look very good when applying to digital media coordination jobs. The Google name carries a lot of weight and will send hiring managers a good impression of the kind of work ethic I have.
I have not started applying for jobs yet. I’m waiting to graduate and have a full resume of certifications to present to employers. I’m looking for digital marketing jobs, preferably something that’s heavy on content creation.
The group project is turning out to be a lot more work than previously expected. It’s going to be tough to grow followers on certain social media platforms.

I think employers are going to be quite impressed with your resume having so many certifications. This has come to be very helpful for all of our career goals. I agree, I think the group work is a bit more than I thought too, but hey it’ll be over in no time!:)

Ike is insane. Like, what’s wrong with some classic lay’s?! All of those snacks smelled like an old lady’s cabinet lol. But I was able to try everything except the chili suckers. I have two in my purse and I’m terrified of them!

How will your Adwords Certification personally be effective in your career future?

I do plan to have a job in marketing somehow, so I think having some knowledge of AdWords will kind of put me ahead of the curve in my career field, as I’ll already go into whatever job I get knowing how digital campaigns work and how to track them.

Have you started applying for jobs yet? What do you want and what are you finding difficult?

Oh my gosh, yes! I’m so nervous! I don’t want to be a grown up! I think the biggest issue I’m having with the application process is all of the preliminary testing that’s required for jobs in this field. Last week alone, I had to audit and refine a list of sample social media posts, analyze a cross platform social media report, and break down several pages of information on a client from Google Analytics. This all took several hours, and was all just work to assess my knowledge before even getting an interview. Another company had me write two search engine optimized articles that required extensive online research as well. Each took a couple of hours after research, writing, and editing were all done. I get why companies require this preliminary stuff, but it’s just so much work to do before even getting an interview. Fingers crossed for everyone else!

What troubles, if any have you run into with your group project so far?

Our group hasn’t been pretty great, as Serenity said. It’s been really hard to coordinate our schedules. Between school, work, babies, and outside projects, we’re all ALWAYS busy! Hahaha

Also I smiled at your little chick gif. Thanks for that!

YOU HAVE TWO IN YOUR PURSE!? Goodness. Job searching sounds like such a pain and you just made it sound even worse. That’s crazy, you’ve had to do stuff like that. I applaud you in your dedication in pushing through to applying for jobs though:)

I honestly didn’t hate anything I ate, but I am very conservative on what I eat.

    2. How will your Adwords Certification personally be effective in your career future?
By the time I graduate, I will have no active certifications, so I will either have to let them go or renew them, and honestly, I really hate them more than anything else….

    3. Have you started applying for jobs yet? What do you want and what are you finding difficult?
I applied for Dayton Daily News and got a job without my degree. They work around my schedule and they are super accommodating. While I don’t plan on working for a newspaper forever, the skills I am obtaining are priceless!

    4. What troubles, if any have you run into with your group project so far?
For my group, scheduled never seem to line up. Someone is always out of work late or has to work late, or like I had car trouble and couldn’t make it to one meeting. Just kinda sucks!

At least you will have the basic understanding on how all your certifications works. That’s awesome! Congrats on getting a job with them and being able to learn new skills! Also, group work is always a bummer sometimes, but we’re getting through:)

    All of them.

How will your Adwords Certification personally be effective in your career future?

I think that the fact that I am certified in google ad words will put me a step ahead because in almost all of the job postings I have seen, ad words is listed as a skill needed.

Have you started applying for jobs yet? What do you want and what are you finding difficult?

No I have not. I have no clue what I want.

What troubles, if any have you run into with your group project so far?

This is personal information and I dont feel comfortable answering this. I also dont feel comfortable with you calling me out in your blog. Great post!

1.The worse snacks from jungle jims were all of them and I didn’t even try them but I could tell from most reactions that nothing was too good except the normal things like cheez its and chex mix I think the snacks are just Ike’s way of saying I don’t like you guys.
2.The ad works certification will probably be helpful if I am working setting up campaigns or any other of the things on the exam which I could see using a few of the things taught.
    3. I have not started applying for jobs but I have started trying to get things together to maybe open a small business like a day care or something like that it does not take much.
4.So far we have not had too many troubles yet and hopefully this is how it continues but it is hard trying to get everyones schedule to meet up.

Jungle Jim’s is awesome, however I don’t trust Ike not to get the worst stuff there. Those pepper popsicles were the worst for sure.

It will give me a boost in the job market. It might not have a direct effect in the line of work that I hope to go into, but it will give me a competitive edge. I can utilize the skills that I learned in Adwords and use that to boost my content.

I have currently applied for 24 jobs and it is not the greatest time to be had. I am looking to be a reporter for a publication with a strong online presence.

We haven’t experienced that many problems we are just trying to our feet off the ground at this point.

    None were too bad.

How will your Adwords Certification personally be effective in your career future?
It will help me be a credible source of information for PR clients needing digital help

I have not yet applied for jobs. I don’t graduate until December so my focus has been internships.

What troubles, if any have you run into with your group project so far?
    Our group is smooth sailing!

Starting your job search before the next holiday season will work better for you then, hah. I had a good time searching for internships. If you find one, you should check in with Dr. Scott Peterson and try to get your internship as college credits. They count as upper-level credits too!

First off, I love the use of your gifs! I’m happy that no one found them distracting this time around!

I didn’t try any of the Jungle Jim’s snacks because I believe Ike is trying to set everyone up. He’s not to be trusted. I don’t exactly know how Google Adwords will be effective with my career choice, but I think it will create more opportunities as I’ll be able to apply for positions that want you to have that certificate. I have not applied for any jobs yet. I don’t think there have been any issues, contrary to what the GP thinks. Meeting up is a hassle as I like to do things independently and work alone better.

HAHA! OMG. Thank you Jeremy! You’re funny. I like to do things independently as well, so I understand. I think this group project will give us a better understanding on what it’s like working with a team in a digital marketing atmosphere.
