Balsamiq, wireframing is not illegal. Who knew.

This week we were directed to complete the wireframe of our website on balsamiq, we got our logos back from the designers and we picked out themes on wordpress. Balsamiq is a wireframing site where you can make a map of your whole website to how it is going to look and where all the buttons will be etc. The wireframe of our website is due on Thursday 16, balsamiq is pretty easy to maneuver through if you already have an idea on how you want your site to look but if you need a run though this link will be some help. The wireframe could take some time because it would seem you have to do everything one by one which could become tedious but it shouldn’t be very hard to get done, just time consuming.

Need a logo? Do it yourself.

We also got our logos back from our designers with some groups being more satisfied then others. We all picked designers from fiverr and pitched them logo ideas, some groups gave the artist more room to be creative than other groups and the other groups had specific things they had in mind for there logo. The logos were cheap and you get unlimited revisions so the groups that didn’t get quite what they like still have a chance to get something different. There is still time for the logos to be redone or tweeked so hopefully everyone is able to get the logo that they want and like.

You get what you pay for, free themes are not that good.

Lastly we were picking out themes we wanted on wordpress from the free ones that they offer. They have a lot of free templates to pick from which all looked very similar to me so maybe I don’t have the eye from website design like the others in my group and the other groups. I was confused on if we should pick a template first and then wire frame or vice versa but I think it will be beneficial to have the template picked first so you can then model the wireframe after the already chosen template.

Next week we should have wordpress website template and wireframe done and we should have logos from the designer or whoever else might be doing them.

Questions:

1. How did your group feel about your logo, what was good or bad about it?

2. Do you think the wireframing will be useful for you in the process of making your website?

3. How did you go about picking the template for your website and did you model it off of any of your competitors websites?

4. What do you think your group is doing better then the competitors you all chose?

    1. How did your group feel about your logo, what was good or bad about it?

Overall I think that our group loved the designs. They were all very similar, but I am very excited with the logos we got back. They look very professional and exactly what we were looking for.

    2. Do you think the wireframing will be useful for you in the process of making your website?

Absolutely. Laying out each page through wire framing is something that I think will definitely help us in this project. Danielle has already gotten a great head start with our design and I am excited to see where it goes.

    3. How did you go about picking the template for your website and did you model it off of any of your competitors websites?

The template we chose was based on what we felt would best represent our brand and what we felt would make it the easiest to access. The layout is very easy to navigate, but it also is very professional looking.

    4. What do you think your group is doing better then the competitors you all chose?

It is hard to say so early in this project, but I am hoping that our ability to post content onto social media is much better that our competitors.

Our designs were definitely solid! We got a selection of about six possibilities to choose from, and together we’re going to choose which one we all like best. I’m looking forward to casting my vote in that selection!

As far as wireframing is concerned, I think it’s definitely a good practice for what we have to do for this assignment. I agree with what you said in your post, Paul, it definitely can be tedious! Everybody in our group has seen at least a little bit of it so far and agrees that it’s not necessarily an easy process, but we can definitely see the usefulness of doing it.

For our website, we had an idea of what a website that’s easy to navigate would look like, and we tried to go off of that as much as possible when we chose our template. We do feel at this point that we have one that will showcase our services online and also be easy to use and easy to navigate once it’s finished!

From the competitors we chose for our project, I am already seeing how we can improve on what they have done so far! Since we already have some experience with social media and brand awareness online, I think that our group will be able to succeed in those areas. Though there isn’t a lot that we’ve already gotten done at this point, it’s going to be interesting to see where we do go once our site is complete!

I feel that our group had relatively easy parameters for our designer with a simple and well outlined plan proposed to our designer, and because of this we had a very simple and pleasant experience with our designer.

Though wire framing is a valuable aspect of website designing, the website themes already exist. Though the wire framing will help us think about what we want to do and how, most of the balsalmiq project we have been working on with essentially be a copy of our WordPress theme.

After reviewing a few really bad websites our group collaborated on a an ideal website layout that would be easy for customers to access and navigate based on how we consume information on the web as well.

Though we’ve not really had much of a chance to prove ourselves, I believe PureMindMarketing will be a leading company in social media platforms in both engaging with potential clients but also with running marketing campaigns to spread the word about our brand.

I like our logo. i think if you are trying to be a content marketer your logo should be eye catching, but it shouldn’t be too much. Our logo fits that perfectly.

    2. Do you think the wireframing will be useful for you in the process of making your website?
Yes i think once we finish wireframing our site, it will make making the actual site that much easier. However making the wireframe is very tedious.

    3. How did you go about picking the template for your website and did you model it off of any of your competitors websites?
well it was hard picking our theme. it took most of the class for us. the themes were a little plain looking but there was a few that stood out.

    4. What do you think your group is doing better then the competitors you all chose?
well i think our team has the most fun.

My group wanted something more simple that could represent a pure vibe. We were all satisfied with the logo that our designer made for us.

I think the wire framing is really pointless for this project, however I understand why we are doing it. It’s good to have the basic awareness and knowledge of what this tool does.

We picked our website theme and decided to choose something that visitors would find user friendly. We all agreed on one after checking out several other potential layouts.

I think after we have more of a developed idea of what my team, Pure Mind Marketing, has to offer then I’ll be able to individually figure out what we’re doing better than our competitors. However, some of our competitors have a horrible following on social media, so I can already say that we will be better.

    1. How did your group feel about your logo, what was good or bad about it?
Our logos turned out really great. It wasnt exactly what I had told the designer to make but I think it turned out better than our original design.

    2. Do you think the wireframing will be useful for you in the process of making your website?
I think it will, at the moment it seems a little time consuming and un-necessary but I think we will be glad we did it in the long run.

    3. How did you go about picking the template for your website and did you model it off of any of your competitors websites?
I picked this template because all the other ones that I had chosen made our logo really small and they all looked really bad.

    4. What do you think your group is doing better then the competitors you all chose?
I think that our group will have more up-to-date knowledge about somethings that I think will put us a step ahead.

I really like your answer to question four, in this field staying up to date is very important so being ahead of competitors in that regard is great.

    1. How did your group feel about your logo, what was good or bad about it?

I wasn’t around when we actually pitched our logo design to our designer, but it just feels like we’ve had nothing but problems with our design. And really?! You can’t provide a vector image?! Come on.

    2. Do you think the wireframing will be useful for you in the process of making your website?

Personally, I’m not a person who really works from a draft. I’d just rather jump straight into WordPress and put together the site from scratch. Especially since we’re working from templates, I don’t really see the point in wireframing for this project. I can see why Ike has us taking this extra step, though. It’s a good skill to learn!

    3. How did you go about picking the template for your website and did you model it off of any of your competitors websites?

Our group just went with a theme that looked visually appealing while also being professional and user friendly. Our company is definitely themed, too, so we also took our brand’s aesthetic into account.

    4. What do you think your group is doing better then the competitors you all chose?

What I’ve found strange in doing the comparative analysis of our competitors is that, while all of them offer services in social media consulting, none of them are really utilizing their own social platforms, and the engagement they are getting on their posts is incredibly low. I think we have an edge because we are intelligent social media users who understand the importance of these platforms and would use them to the best of our ability for our own company.

The designer my group chose was the artistic equivalent of Heidi Montag’s post-plastic surgery transformation: TRASH. He got $10, sent back the design we sent him and couldn’t even provide a transparent copy. Flop. At first, I thought wireframing was stupid, but now I think it was useful. If what my group truly likes what we created in Balsamiq, all we have to is just recreate it. We took the template from WordPress that we chose and mimicked it using Balsamiq. That’s because my group is smart…unlike the other two peasant groups that dwell in the dungeons. My group chose a theme they liked and I said yes. I think it’s too early to tell what we’re doing better than the competitors, but by the end of the project, I’m sure we’ll have done everything better.

I think wireframe will be useful during the process of making our websites because having the backbone makes the design process a lot less overwhelming.
When it comes to our competitors The main one that I chose, lacks utilization of social media and links on their sites. I had to search for their social media channels individually and not one of them connected to anything else not even their main site.

First of all, I want to say solid post Paul. Our group was not particularly pleased with the logo that we received. It was too simple and we made a way better logo ourselves. When we try to have our designer revise the design we received yet again another inferior product.

Honestly it is nice to have a template in place, however as my group was working on a template I felt that it was unnecessary. I would of rather skipped the wire-frame process and jump straight to the WordPress.

We chose our template of our website because certain members liked the visual capabilities of the template. We didn’t really have any example in mind at the time.

We have heart. LOTS OF HEART

    1. How did your group feel about your logo, what was good or bad about it?

Our logo was awful and I really don’t want to talk about it. But, no seriously, it was bad and it’s pretty unfortunate because we had very high hopes for the guy.

    2. Do you think the wireframing will be useful for you in the process of making your website?

I do to a certain extent, but I think it would be much more useful to just be able to directly create the website on WordPress, as I feel like I was doing the same step two times over when creating the wireframe and then transferring that over to WordPress.

    3. How did you go about picking the template for your website and did you model it off of any of your competitors websites?

We went through nearly all of the free templates that WordPress had to offer and we went with one that we felt best suited our overall theme as a company and the ease of use and accessibility with it. Overall, we decided on one that allowed us to list everything in sections on the main page, and then add additional links to click off to separate pages from there.

    4. What do you think your group is doing better then the competitors you all chose?

I think we’re really working well together as a group and bouncing ideas off of each other well. Even when we do have a conflict, we’re doing really well with managing that and getting it done. I can’t necessarily speak for how well anyone else is doing with those things, but I’m pretty proud of our group in that regard.

PS. I know I’m late, but I still wanted to at least try, so can I at least get a half point? :)
